Interview Exclusive: AudioDax’s Temble

AudioDax’s music is real catchy.  The duo combines smooth, effortless rhymes (Chicago emcee K-FLO), punchy electronic beats (Texas producer Temble), and increasingly irresistible hooks to make great pop music.  Their potential is undeniable.  After hearing the group play their first show live in Greencastle, Indiana, we sat down with AudioDax’s Temble to talk about all things music (congrats guys, you brought the house down):

What are your favorite songs of the past year?
Deadmau5 – “ghosts n stuff”
Phoenix – “1901”
Vampire Weekend – “Horchata”
B.o.b. – “Nothin On You”
Train – “Soul Sister”

What are some of your favorite songs from the past?
Sufjan Stevens – “Casimir Pulaski Day”
Bob Dylan – “Hurricane”
Neil Young – “Old Man”
A-ha – “Take On Me”
Tears for Fears – “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”

Do you have a favorite new band?
Cut Copy is badass.  They’re great live, too.

If you could collaborate with anybody, who would it be?
I think it might be Passion Pit.  Every single instrument they use doesn’t sound great individually, but together they sound awesome, like an electronic orchestra, it really comes together.

What was your favorite recent concert?
I liked Owl City a lot because he does some similar stuff to AudioDax.  Adam came out with a complete band of about 8 people backing him, all helping to recreate the music live.  It sounded great.

What was the last great movie you saw?
I really enjoyed A Beautiful Mind with Russel Crowe, but more recently than that, the last movie that really had an impact on me was Shawshank Redemption. That’s a classic, great movie. But to be honest I haven’t even seen a full movie in 2 or 3 months.

What was the last great book you read?
Definitely it was The Road by Cormac McCarthy.  I like the southern style and McCarthy’s imagery is so vivid.

Do you have a favorite piece of musical equipment?
Axiotron midi keyboard, we use that a lot and it helps increase the quality of our music. I wouldn’t be making these tracks without it.

What was the first CD you ever bought?
Oh yeah, I was about 9 years old, and I bought The Best Of: Squirrel Nut Zippers.  Man that is a classic.

What’s the strangest thing a fan has ever done to you?
I think I got engaged last night during the show?

What’s your favorite thing you bought in the past year?
I bought this bubble machine, you press a button and it’s like non-stop bubbles, pretty cool.  Also that came in a package with a beer guitar, like one of those 7-11 slurpee things, but we put beer in it.

What’s your favorite venue to play in?
Hoods and Capers in Greencastle, Indiana, the site of our first show.

Do you have a favorite TV show?
Flight of the Concords, too bad it got cancelled and wasn’t popular enough.

What is your ringtone at the moment?
“Good Morning” by Kanye West
